Gathering #6 - - Wild Kind

Wild Kind

Gathering #6 - 11 June 2018

An event organised as part of the Art Research Programme at Goldsmiths, University of London.

Expanding and contracting the format of a one-day research symposium, Wild Kind looked at relations between nature and culture in different organisms and species; encourage encounters with, and make significant, others. The event was largely configured around Donna Haraway’s means of staying with the trouble and some of the topics that we will be exploring through discussion and art practice are: Deep Ecology, Machines, Critters and Postgendered Identities.

The day was a durational choreography with visual works, performances, talks, food, a dj set, radical educational components and a participatory table that embodies the themes and lends a structure to the event, including contributions from PhD Art Researchers at Goldsmiths and beyond and includes a film screening Donna Haraway: Story Telling for Earthly Survival by Fabrizio Terranova.

Interdisciplinary in character, the event aimed to connect theory and practice by shaping and reshaping, figuring and reconfiguring thoughts, practices and objects through storytelling and gestures.

Using this material, and interlacing various rhythms throughout the day, we stayed – and moved – with the trouble across boundaries of the known into fields unknown, realms kind of wild, inviting you to join, risk and follow the threads where they led.
